A Bit About Us

Kurlana Pastoral Company is a family operated, broad-acre farming business in the Northern Mallee region of South Australia.

Our farm is located 35km south-east of Waikerie and has an average annual rainfall of about 250mm.

We practice minimum tillage methods and mostly sow straight into standing stubble. Occasionally we do work paddocks when the need arises due to weeds or general paddock roughness.

We crop around 6,600 Hectares (16,300 acres) / year and grow mainly Hard wheat, Barley and Cereal Rye on a continuous cropping program.

The farm is managed by Warren May, his son Shane May and son in-law Brenton Arnold.

Warren is in charge of grain marketing and the transport, whilst Brenton & Shane do most of the farm operations.

We store most of our grain on farm using Grain Bags which have been a great success. This grain is then sold after harvest when we have more time to concentrate on marketing.

We all enjoy the day to day challenges a large business brings and also the challenges we face as dry-land farmers in one of the lowest rainfall districts for broad-acre farming in the country.

Enjoy reading a bit about our business on this site.
